What Are You Reading?

To get recommendations for Christmas shopping, as well as just because and I love the library, I think its time to get some recommendations from you.

Here are some of the books I've read recently:

Swamplandia! by Karen Russell

Quirky, well-written, disturbing, occasionally frustrating, and definitely sticks with you for a long time.

Where Things Come Back, Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, Bigger than a Breadbox, The One and Only Ivan

Poignant, honest, delightful, sad, hilarious, wonderful

Ms. Hemple Chronicles

Weird, beautiful, funny, melancholy, and I will never EVER be a teacher

Right now I have checked out from the library The Night Circus and The Snow Child.

Your turn. What have you read lately, and what would you recommend?

Sarah Allen

  5. The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater is a must - also, Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. I also read The Secret History this year, though it was released years ago, and have been recommending it to people. Happy reading!

  6. I've been sneaking in time to read Crewel by Gennifer Albin and The Diviners by Libba Bray when I'm supposed to be doing grad school work. I just can't help myself. I would much rather be reading.

  7. currently reading third book in the series The Books of Elsewhere. So cute and delightful. It's kinda fun and adventurous the way Harry Potter is, quirky, funny, magical. It's really cool. It's about this 10/11 year old girl who can climb into paintings into the world of Elsewhere and has talking cats and a haunted house...basically you should read it. I've got the whole series (and met the editor who worked on them!) and I'm gonna give them to Jo's 10 year old sister for Christmas.

It would be perfect for one of your little siblings...just saying, then you could both enjoy them!

  8. I seem to be on a romance/YA bent as of late (probably because I've been doing some book reviews of what some fellow writers are putting out in those genres), but if you're into high end YA (meaning the characters are 17+), you should check out "Softly Say Goodbye" by KC Sprayberry.

It is a fantastic book about teenage drinking and it will defintely affect you ways that you wouldn't think possible.

    Or...

You could always take a look at mine. :D
