So maybe I've had a false start or two since finishing The Keeper, but guys, I think this is it. I have that solidity in my head that tells me this idea can make it to full novel length. It's interesting. I have more confidence about this next idea than I did the last time around, but at the same time feel like there is an even greater chance that this idea will totally fail. So kind of both? Which I think, when put together, means that if this novel does not completely tank, it could be better than the first one.
As it should be. I want every novel to be better than the last, to always be improving. Also, if I didn't feel like this novel was going to be just as good or better, why waist my time with it? So yeah, I'm excited. George will always be my baby. I have just as much confidence in him as I did before, and I want more than anything to have The Keeper be my first novel published and out there in the world. Still querying, still hoping and praying for the best with that one. And quickly. The sooner the better.
And starting novel two. This one is going to be different from The Keeper in many ways. This novel will be Young Adult, staring a fourteen year old girl rather than a forty year old man. Her name is Olivia. She has a sister named Ruth, and they are on a road trip with a few other people. That's all I'm going to say for now. But I'm excited.
I do have a working title, but I'm not going to let that go at this point. I've become pretty superstitious about how much I say before the piece is finished. But I'll keep you guys posted.
Tell me about your current projects. Are you submitting? Finishing? Beginning? Slogging through the muddy middle?

If you have the 'buzz' then it probably is 'the idea' so to speak. I wish you lots of luck.
Oh it's great when the ideas finally snag and take off. All the best to you on The Keeper and your new work!
Still slogging through. And coming up with all kinds of different ways to get myself motivated. They sound great on my blog, but in practice...it's still hard :)
Good luck with the YA. I can't wait to read it!!!
Love, Tif @ tademings.com
very excited for you sarah!
I just started revisions on novel 2 for me. It's a YA SF that I'm really excited about but needs a loooot of revisions, so, you know, a lot of work. But that's okay!
How wonderful! Work is good, success is better, and knowing that you did it is best of all.
It's hard starting a big new project after being so emotionally invested in the previous one. But they're like kids - you love them equally once they're born!
Current project is my prequel short story series to my existing trilogy. I am 36% of the way through (8 out of 22 episodes) and I'm starting episode nine today. First set of six have had one round of editing and should have the second finished in a week. Covers are currently being created by a talented artist and I should have them in March, the same month I plan to start releasing them.
So, I would say that I'm starting, slogging and finishing all at the same time.
Keep at it, Sarah!
I've just handed back the first edits on my second novel, the sequel to Locked Within, which came out last November. I'm also busy writing the third, and final, part of the series.
Well, I'm in a bit of conundrum as it applies to writing. I took out a 3/4 finished slush novel that I have really good hopes for, so I started reading it a couple of weeks ago to refamiliarize myself with it.
However, on Facebook I've been getting quite a few positive comments about my commercial debut and in a couple of them, they asked if there was going to be a sequel.
Thus, the conundrum.
On the submissions front, I just started submitting a novella that I feel will help me fulfill my New Year's resolution for the 3rd consecutive year.
Hey Sarah,
I just wanted to say I love your blog. I am currently submitting my first completed novel to agents, and it's getting a fairly good response. Getting a reject letter can be so discouraging sometimes but that's the joy of being a writer.
This may be my first completed novel, but about four years ago I started my very first novel. Then, I got a new idea for another novel, got really excited and ended up finishing that before the one I started four years ago. Typical.
The first one is my baby and I'm almost finished it, but I am finding it to a slow process. The completed novel appears to be taking up all my time (which is strange considering there isn't anything else to do with it). But researching agents can be pretty time consuming.
I wish you all the best with your new novel and I look forward to hearing how it goes for you.
