I have a serious problem with this, guys.
I'm perfectly happy sitting at my desk (or *ahem* on my bed) at my little computer writing my novel, browsing Elance, editing a YouTube video, commenting on blogs. I love all of that. And then for pure fun times it doesn't get much better, i.e. there is this thing called Netflix.
So I'm making a serious goal to do better at this. Generally I am pretty good at going to the gym four or five times a week, but I'm not quite convinced that makes up for sitting at my computer all the other times. Being in a play helps too, because then I'm dancing my little tooshie off every night. Such a blast. But...
What do you do to get your body moving? Maybe short walks every couple hours? Jumping on the tramp? I mean, I have a hard enough time just getting out of the house. So...how do you get yourself out of the house? And where do you go?
Really I just need to get myself one of these:
*sigh* One day I will have money and a yard.

Yeah. It takes money to raise a fur-child. One day. I've got two fur-kids.
I'm kind of addicted to running, and there's a park near my apartment that I can run around every day. It's good brainstorming time, too. :) I've contemplated getting one of those yoga balls to sit on as I work at my desk. My friend loves hers.
I have one of those. Well, not exactly like that one but you've seen her on my blog. She very effective. When she things it's walk time (and she's usually right), she starts pawing at my leg or jumping up and hitting my arm until I agree. Without her I'd probably sit at my desk all day.
I have to set time markers, Sarah. When I sit down at the desk I have to say, "Okay, at 10:45 I'm getting up and going to the gym." or whatever. Sometimes it's just to go play ball with my dog in the backyard for 10-15 minutes.
The thing is, it's a hard deadline. I vow to stop mid-eMaill, leave that blog comment dangling, etc. I have to be that firm-minded about it or I'll let half of a day slip away and not move.
I struggle with this. With a full-time job and a family, there's very little time left for anything else. So my active time definitely suffers when I'm on a good writing roll. I do make myself go to the gym at least once a week for yoga and another class, but more than that is hard.
I go to the gym, or I walk into town about 10 mins away to buy lunch. Or I jump up and down while I'm thinking. Or do lunges in the middle of the room for no reason. I'm a horrible fidgeter, so even while I'm writing this my right foot is circling in the air!
Puppy = exercise. No doubt about it. Maybe I need a tramp for work??
Just go for a walk outside. It doesn't have to be long or far. Just a simple 15 minute walk through the neighborhood to start out. Getting outside doesn't have to be a big deal, but it does make a bid difference!
I have a "step meter" (English is not my first language so I'm sorry I don't know is that a right word) that counts my steps daily. There's a goal to reach 10 000 steps daily, which is about 4 miles for me. When I reach that, the counter tells me it on its screen! It's soooo motivational and it has made me "to move" !! :)

I've read recent studies that say even if you exercise for two hours after sitting all day, it is unhealthy. You gotta get yourself up throughout the day. Sigh. This is really hard for me, because I get engrossed in my work. Sometimes I set a timer for every half hour or hour to get up and walk through a few rooms. Speaking of which, its about time I do that now....
I've thought before that if I had a dog to walk I'd HAVE to get out of the house, and I'd automatically be in better shape. But some days I figure my yard would just be grosser. :x
I'm struggling with the same thing right now. How do you juggle getting enough activity and keeping your butt planted in front of the computer to write? I read that Charles Dickens wrote standing up. Also, they have these stand-up desks that can be adjusted up or down for sitting or standing. Hmmm...
