What Project Are You Working On?

I'm curious. Some of you may be like me, and not like sharing too much about your WIP before its finished, but I'd love to know whatever you're willing to share. I actually think it might be inspiring for all of us to see what each other is working on and how its coming along.

As my WIP meter indicates, I'm almost half way done with my novel. Let's see, what can I say about it? Its adult mainstream, blended with a bit of romance and magical realism. The main character is 40-ish year old man named George, who works at a zoo and is legal guardian of his niece, the daughter of his twin sister who died a few years ago. The magical part and the romance part I'm keeping a secret :) I would love to get it finished by the end of the year. We'll see how it goes.

So what are you working on?

Hi, Sarah:

Hope all is well with you. I'm working on the last several chapter of rewrites and edits to Secondhand Shoes. You can check out my blog page for it @ http://www.secondhandshoesnovel.blogspot.com/

Hi
Yeah, I'm a bit secretive, but not totally... I finished the second high polish on a YA fantasy dealing with lies, temptations, and a bit of magic. It's down to 340 pages from the original 370.

Yesterday I finished chapter 10 of the second book in my trilogy titled "Guardian". I have 25 chapters outlined with one of them being an epic fight scene that I intend to experiment with chapter lengths on. So chapter 19a, 19b, 19c, etc. None will be longer than 1000 words. Quick little sub chapters that bounce around as the action sequence plays out.

Book two takes place 5 years after the events of book one and continues the story of a time traveling guardian in a steampunk sci-fi fantasy world.

I'm finishing revisions of a Pride and Prejudice sequel called His Good Opinion. It's the story told from Darcy's perspective--in fact, it's Darcy's story entirely.

My next project (slated to be written during NaNoWriMo this year) is Col. Fitzwilliam's story. He's a spy during the Napoleonic Wars, and on one mission, things don't go exactly as planned...

I love writing in Jane Austen's world and digging into England's Regency period.

I'm working on a women's contemporary (is that the genre? I'm used to YA!) story abut a dissatisfied middle aged woman who has put right some teenage mistakes to go on with her life.

Yeah, it's vague :)

You must clearly love writing to have so much time to blog and to write your fiction as well. Takes a lot of love and discipline that I'm envious of :-P #writer's block

Hey Sarah,

First of all, thank you so much for your blog. I have shared it with other creative writer's in my school. It's good to see you making this a community thing rather than perpetuating the notion that we are hermits in cowl neck sweaters living in Maine. Sorry, I had a mental image.
Secondly, I am working on my blogs: http://musingsofjessah.blogspot.com/ to try and get some of my poetry and free form essays out there & also, http://senorpatitothefoodie.blogspot.com/ where I review restaurants, bars, and coffee shops in NYC. I just got my first freelancing job with Skyword.com reviewing "kid friendly" activities in NYC. As a single mom, it's right up my alley, and I am super excited. Also, I am currently enrolled in the creative writing for entertainment program at Full Sail University. I hope to one day write a script.

If anyone would like to follow my blogs, please feel free! Or follow me on twitter @jessah_diaz & senor_patito! Thanks Sarah and best of luck everyone!!

Completely understand about being a tad bit secretive on projects. I think the more I gush about mine, the more I just end up not writing it. I likes the sounds of what you're working on now!

From dropping 2 old novels for the moment, I'm currently working on a contemporary YA novel (I love to read YA but I never write it, lol). It involves a girl who was raised in a cult-like place. One day the police raid the "camp" and she is taken to live with her uncle she never knew existed. Some of the cult members are still out there and her world is about to be turned upside down.

Currently starting a novel as a means of not revising my first novel (I'm currently blaming it on my ideal readers who have not provided me with notes yet but that is only about 30% true). This novel is about a 15 year old boy who is taken in by his uncle once his parents go to prison for cooking meth. Good times.

I've put my latest project on the back burner again, after taking it out to work on following 1 1/2 year hiatus because the enthusiam for my previous novel that I was working on vanished.

I got the short story bug again, so I'm working on a trilogy of sorts with Pulp Fiction style violence and paranormal/fantasy characters (a soul catcher and a hybrid human).

I'm working on book 2. Finally got some halfway decent inspiration. Actually, that's what I blogged about today. COmpletely rewrote chapter one. Now instead of my MC sitting on a cliff listening to the wind and contemplating how she got there (Blech), she gets into a jungle altercation and beheads 13 men. BAM!

I started a new WIP on August 1st, and it's coming along okay--not great, since I'm barely managing to keep up with the goal of a thousand words a day. But I'm happy with it. :) It's a YA SF/Dystopian novel, female MC, first person, present tense.

I don't usually talk about my work much, either, unless someone asks. :P I haven't mentioned my writing on my blog in a while.

I'm not that secretive at all. At least face to face. I'm a little more cautious about posting details online.

That said, I can say that my two WIPs at the moment are a sequel to my first novel, which I'm very nearly done on the first draft, and a YA book about a boy who turns into a bird-like monster every night.

I'm working on the third edit of my Nanowrimo 2011 project :) It's about a girl who chases fairies for a living. Then, being a novel, everything goes horribly wrong :)

Love the sound of your book, Sarah!

Two years ago I wrote a novel about triplets who were separated at birth who set out to find each other in their teens. Why then? Because that's the age at which they discover they are telepathic.
I wrote it from the point of view of the women who adopted one of them. When I got to the end I thought, "what teenager wants to read a book by their mother?"
I put it on one side to think about, and now I am re-writing from the POV of the teenage girl, quite a challenge as I am male and not a teenager. I'm about half way through. I'd love it if someone wanted to read a few chapters and comment.

Nearly half way? That's awesome! My WIP is a historical ya (i'm not sure that that's even a real category, but...) set in World War Two Poland.

Thanks for the post!

Well, I just recently got an idea for a story that revolves around a corporation that changes people's lives (literally; they take the reigns for a while) and about an employee who wants out (the "why" is my little secret!)

For me it's a new experience for me because it's been a while since I have written something that requires me to "bend the rules" of what is possible. It's a very new idea, but so far, it has stayed with me. So, I feel good about it. Just not sure how to attack it. I'm tempted to write and see where it goes; but another part really wants to develop and outline first!

Working on too many things to make a list appropriate for a blog comment, and it would probably hurt my brain, lol.

Also, just went through all your disneyland stuff. So jealous!
