Freaking James Franco

Academy Award nominated, two-time host of Saturday Night Live, got his MFA in creative writing from Columbia University while also studying theater at NYU, published in Esquire and McSweeney's and in his own collection of short stories, not to mention he's a sexy devil.

My future 33 year old self is looking supremely un-cool.

Here's a little something to make you feel better about your 33 year old self:

Not to make it seem like a I don't like James Franco (I've liked him in almost every movie he's been in) but I can't help but discount his writerly achievements a little bit. Columbia is a prestigious MFA for sure. I spent close to a year researching programs in preparation for being rejected by 13 of them and I can say that the biggest barrier to getting into Columbia seems to be one's willingness/ability to shell out 200k (after certain bare minimums are met-GPA, writing sample, et al). Not to get into a Columbia rant here (there are ample articles all over the web concerning Columbia's comparative lack of selectivity and complete lack of funding as well as their jumbo sized classes and small percentage of matriculation) but it is unsurprising that this is the program he received an MFA from.

Don't get me wrong, the guy's an exceptionally hard worker, but I think the image of him as preternaturally gifted in all these different fields is not accurate. He's a gifted actor which opened a number of other doors that might not so readily have swung otherwise. That's not his fault but it is to his benefit. That being said: Do you think he's gay?

Mm, James Franco. Yummy all around. :)

Don't forget, there's all different kinds of cool--and you've still got a lifetime to show this world who's boss. I have faith in you. :)

This guy is superhuman, right? I wonder if his book is good. I'll have to take a peek at it.

I'm not familiar with this chap, but my wife attended Columbia at night for her graduate dance training. It just happened to be a school with the program she needed. She commuted from Connecticut. It may sound prestigious, but I got a great education at a state school, thank you.
But yes, he does seem to be a hard worker.
